Fullerton : City Upgrades Street Sweeping to Once a Week

Share

Cleaner streets are in the city’s future with a new sweeping program that began this week.

Because of residents’ complaints about littered streets and gutters, the city is sending out its crews to clean the streets once a week. Until now, streets were swept once every two weeks.

“Street sweeping problems are among the complaints most frequently received by the city’s maintenance and operations department, said Gene Viramontes, street maintenance superintendent.

“The every two-week schedule really caused problems at times,” Viramontes said. “The sweepers are not run on holidays or during rainy periods, so, as a result, some streets aren’t swept for a month. The new schedule is a positive step toward improving the appearance of our streets.”

To aid in the street-cleaning program, the City Council recently approved spending $80,000 to buy a new vacuum sweeper truck to add to the city’s two trucks.
