Man Survives Fall From Roof of Jail
An unidentified man apparently jumped from the roof of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Van Nuys station in a possible suicide attempt late Friday night, police said.
The man survived the three-story fall. He landed on the roof of a parking structure and suffered a broken leg and internal injuries. He was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, Sgt. Craig Rungaitis said.
Rungaitis said the incident occurred at about 9:55 p.m. He said the man had been held earlier in the day at Van Nuys Jail after being arrested by the California Highway Patrol on suspicion of possessing toluene, a glue some use for illegal sniffing.
The police spokesman said the man had been released earlier in the evening.
