USA Today and its parent company, Gannett Co. Inc., will sponsor fan balloting for major league baseball’s All-Star game for at least the next three years.

Gannett will pay major league baseball $1 million a year for three years, with an option to renew sponsorship for two years, according to a statement by John J. Curley, Gannett president and chief executive officer.

The Gillette Safety Razor Co. conducted computerized fan balloting from 1970 to 1985, but its association with the game ended when Gillette and baseball failed to come to a financial agreement. The commissioner’s office conducted the balloting last summer.
