The former ticket manager for the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics pleaded not guilty to charges of theft, fraud and mischief arising from the mail distribution of ticket order forms in the United States.

In a brief appearance in Calgary provincial court, James McGregor, 37, elected to be tried by judge and jury. A preliminary hearing was set for March 23 by Judge Gary Cioni.

McGregor was charged with two counts of theft, two counts of fraud and one count of mischief after a monthlong police investigation into the distribution of about 8,000 ticket order forms in the United States.

Prosecutors and police said the forms were distributed by World Tickets Inc., owned 99% by McGregor, and requested payment in U.S. funds rather than Canadian dollars, worth about 38% less.
