A transient sitting on railroad tracks and drinking beer with friends was struck by a Santa Fe freight train Saturday afternoon and survived.
Police said that others in the group moved away from the tracks when they heard the horn from the oncoming locomotive, but the victim, Elias D. Martinez, 30, remained on the tracks.
