The 80-year-old father of Angel slugger Reggie Jackson was arrested in Philadelphia for allegedly firing a shot at a man who broke his car window with a tire iron, police said Saturday.
Martinez Jackson was charged with aggravated assault and a weapons offense as a result of an incident Thursday. A police spokesman said Jackson was later hospitalized in stable condition at Albert Einstein Medical Center’s cardiac unit after complaining of chest pains.
The other man involved in the incident, identified as Richard Py, 33, also was arrested, police said. Py was charged with three counts of simple assault.
Police said Py, who was on foot, allegedly threw a tire iron through the rear window of Jackson’s car because he thought Jackson had driven too close to him. They said Jackson fired a single shot from a .32-caliber pistol at Py, missing him.
