Lakesider Killed by Police Car in S.D.
A police car struck and killed a 29-year-old Lakeside man early Sunday as he was crossing Imperial Avenue in Southeast San Diego, police said.
San Diego police are investigating the death, which occurred at 1:31 a.m. Bill Robinson, a police department spokesman, said there was no initial indication of any wrongdoing by police.
The victim, whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, was declared dead at the scene.
The victim stepped from behind a parked van and was attempting to cross northbound when he was hit by the police car, which was eastbound on Imperial Avenue, police said. The victim hit the vehicle’s windshield and was thrown over the back of the car, police said.
The police car was driven by Officer Anthony Zeljesnrak, who was with Officer Earl Reddix, police said.
