Two passenger jets flying at 35,000 feet nearly collided in the air over Tennessee today when a controller was unable to warn the pilots because of a stuck microphone, the Federal Aviation Administration officials said.

FAA spokesman Jack Barker said no evasive action was necessary and no one was injured in the 10:33 a.m. incident between Knoxville and Nashville.

He said the planes involved were United Flight 743 from Fort Myers, Fla., to Chicago, and Braniff Flight 515 from New York City to Dallas.
