Santa Ana : Public’s Help Asked in Identifying Dead Man
The county coroner’s office appealed Thursday for the public’s help in identifying a young male bicyclist who died of severe head injuries suffered in a traffic accident earlier this week.
Deputy Coroner Rick Plows said the young man was about 18 to 20 years of age, weighed 150 pounds and was about 5 feet, 5 inches tall, with short, black hair. Plows said the man was wearing a black nylon jacket, a Burgundy shirt, tan tennis shoes and a yellow baseball cap with the lettering “Dole Fresh Racing Team.” Around his neck, he wore a black string with several knots tied in it. He was riding a 10-speed bicycle.
Police have said the unidentified cyclist was hit by a van at 6:55 a.m. Monday at the intersection of 1st Street and Harbor Boulevard. He was taken to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, where he was treated for severe head injuries before his death at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
There have been no arrests or citations in the case, but Santa Ana police are continuing an investigation.
