Iowa State President Gordon Eaton said that a school probe has shown the university is guilty of major athletic violations and will surely be punished by the National Collegiate Athletic Assn., whose infractions committee will consider the case today at Kansas City, Kan.
Eaton, named president in July, also implied that former football Coach Jim Criner knew about the violations or was responsible but said that his firing of Criner Wednesday was not done in hopes of easing NCAA penalties. Eaton said that he will oversee the selection of a replacement, with integrity being the top criterion.
