One Killed, 3 Hurt When 81-Year-Old Bridge Collapses
An 81-year-old steel highway bridge collapsed Friday after a heavy crane had crossed, sending a truck more than 100 feet to the creek bed below, killing one man and injuring three others, police said.
Police said the 170-foot-long bridge on a rural road near the town of Hanover collapsed shortly after 8 a.m., sending a pickup truck and the trailer it was towing into the waters of Walnut Creek.
One man was dead at the scene after being pinned in the water by the cab of the truck, police said. Two other victims were taken by helicopter to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo. A fourth victim was taken to Lake Shore Intercommunity Hospital in Irving.
