JERUSALEM —
President Chaim Herzog on Friday canceled a state visit to the Philippines because of the Southeast Asian nation’s internal political problems, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said.
The announcement coincided with reports that Philippine President Corazon Aquino’s government faced a crisis over the killing of a prominent left-wing leader.
The Israeli president began an 18-day tour of the South Pacific and Southeast Asia on Nov. 2 and was to visit the Philippines on Sunday.
