A federal judge will impose a new order prohibiting the California Nurses Assn. from directly or indirectly supporting a Northern California strike by 9,000 workers at Kaiser Permanente hospitals. U.S. District Judge Robert Schnacke said he will sign the order, requested by the National Labor Relations Board, as soon as the legal papers are prepared. NLRB attorney Daniel Altemus said that probably will be Monday. Members of Local 250 of the Hospital and Institutional Workers Union are on a strike that was prompted by Kaiser’s offer of a two-tier wage system that would pay new hires as much as 30% less than current employees. Federally mediated negotiations broke off last week. No new talks are scheduled.
