A Westlake Village man drowned when he became entangled in kelp while scuba diving off Anacapa Island. The Ventura County coroner’s office said Robert Michael Heyman, 43, an experienced diver, apparently became separated from fellow divers on the ocean floor. Colleagues quickly discovered that he was missing, found him unconscious in the kelp bed, and brought him back aboard their boat. They called the Coast Guard for assistance and attempted to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at St. John’s Regional Medical Center.
