No arrests were made, but the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said it is investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 3-year-old Lawndale boy. The child, who was not immediately identified, was pronounced dead at Robert F. Kennedy Medical Center in Hawthorne. His parents said he had stopped breathing suddenly. But doctors in the hospital’s emergency room said the boy had several bruises and what appeared to be cigarette burns on various parts of his body. An autopsy was ordered.
