Gerald Richardson, a senior defensive back at Idaho State, and his wife, Adrian, signed complaints at Pocatello, Ida., against assistant coach Nick McCall, saying that McCall struck them in an altercation near the locker room during last Saturday’s 57-13 loss to Montana. According to police, who said McCall denied the charges, the dispute came after Richardson walked off the field just before halftime and said he was quitting the team.

In August of 1984, just before the football season, Richardson, from Sacramento, and his wife announced that they were leaving Pocatello because of racial harassment. Richardson, who is black, reported to police that someone sprayed “KKK” on his automobile and home. He returned to the Pocatello school one year later and played last season and this year.
