Six men who were allegedly operating a $100,000-a-week bookmaking operation out of their homes were arrested over the weekend after a 10-week investigation by Los Angeles Police Department vice investigators.

The men, who ranged in age from 38 to 54, were taken into custody after police served search warrants at their homes in Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Glendale, North Hollywood and Van Nuys, said Sgt. Ralph Krusey.

They were taken to Van Nuys Division and released on $500 bail each, Krusey said. He said vice officers were withholding the men’s names to avoid tipping off others who may be taking bets.

The suspects allegedly took bets on horse races and other sporting events, Krusey said. Police monitoring the telephones at one location recorded $1,400 in wagers in 15 minutes, he said.
