NHL Roundup : Johnston’s Goal Gives Bruins a 3-2 Victory Over Maple Leafs

Greg Johnston, inserted into the game when starting center Keith Crowder went to the bench with a broken skate lace, took a cross-ice pass from Charlie Simmer and scored a goal with 57 seconds left to give the Boston Bruins a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs Monday night at Toronto.

Boston trailed, 2-0, after two periods. Ray Bourque brought the Bruins back into the game with a short-handed goal at 5:13 of the third period, and Ken Linseman tied the score at 16:50.

Toronto goalie Allan Bester’s strong play kept the Maple Leafs in the game throughout the opening two periods when they were outshot, 30-17.

Calgary 6, Edmonton 5--Paul Reinhart scored the game’s first three goals, and John Tonelli had three assists as the Flames edged the Oilers at Edmonton. It was the first NHL hat trick for Reinhart, who scored his goals in the first 12 minutes of the game.
