The formation of a professional women’s volleyball league for this spring was announced and it will include six teams--the New York Liberties, the Chicago Breeze, the Minnesota Monarchs, the San Francisco Golddiggers, the Los Angeles Starlites and the Texas Twisters.
The teams will play a 22-match season and compete for a prize pool of nearly $500,000, according to Commissioner Steve Arnold, who said his league will draw players from colleges and hopes to lure back American players from leagues in Italy and Japan.
