Norman Palmer, Actor, Ex-Dental Technician, Dies
Norman Palmer, who relatively late in life abandoned a career in dental technology to pursue one in acting, has died of cancer at the City of Hope in Duarte. The character actor who appeared in such television shows as “The Love Boat” and “Hotel” was 65 when he died Tuesday.
Palmer became an actor in his 40s and for more than 20 years appeared on TV and in such movies as “Mommie Dearest,” “St. Ives,” “New York, New York,” and many other pictures for the Disney Studios.
The Pasadena resident who was born in Plymouth, England, served in the Royal Navy from 1939 to 1945 and was twice decorated for bravery. He began acting in local theater productions in West Palm Beach, Fla., where he owned a dental technician’s laboratory.
His other television credits included episodes of “Hart to Hart,” “Lou Grant,” “Simon and Simon” and “Remington Steele.”
Palmer is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, and three children. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the City of Hope.
