An Army guardsman was killed and four others were slightly injured when their Jeep overturned during a mock U.S.-Soviet desert battle. The accident occurred as the five men, who were fighting as U.S. forces, drove across the northern part of the National Training Center at Ft. Irwin, 120 miles northeast of Los Angeles. The soldier killed was identified as Spec. 4 Ted T. Ramos, 22, of the Nebraska National Guard, from Ogallala, Neb. The soldiers, stationed at Ft. Riley, Kan., were among several hundred taking part in the desert exercises and had come to California for the drill. The names of the injured soldiers were not be released.
