An El Cajon woman hanged herself using her bed sheets Friday night in an isolation cell at the Las Colinas County Jail in Santee, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.
Laura Beth Maki, 24, of the 500 block of Chambers Avenue, was found by deputies shortly before 10 p.m. Friday, a spokesman said.
She was taken to Grossmont Hospital by the Santee Fire Department, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
The spokesman said Maki was booked into the facility earlier in the day for auto theft and also was being held on a warrant charging her with violation of parole. She was placed in an isolation cell because of her past association with other prisoners.
He said there had been no indication that she was contemplating suicide.
