“Baryshnikov: The Dancer and the Dance.” Kultur. $39.95. Both the solemn-to-stern narration by Shirley MacLaine and the printed titles in this 1983 documentary spread a great deal of misinformation. The Baryshnikov interview segments don’t probe beyond professional generalities. Even the dance climax--the premiere of Choo San Goh’s “Configurations”--misfires now that the ballet and most of its original cast are no longer seen at American Ballet Theatre. Still, Baryshnikov has never been more appealingly photographed and the 82-minute videotape offers abundant evidence of his technical/expressive greatness. Information: (201) 842-6693. 1/2
