Santa Ana : Young to Serve as Mayor Until Elections in 1988
- Share via
Dan Young, a developer who was elected to the City Council in 1982, will serve as mayor until November, 1988, when voters are to determine for the first time who will hold the city’s top elected position.
Young was selected last week by a unanimous vote of his fellow council members, as was Councilwoman Patricia A. McGuigan, who will serve as vice mayor. McGuigan was elected in 1981 and reelected in 1984.
A new system approved in the November election calls for the mayor to be directly elected, beginning two years from now.
Young, 35, takes over the mayor’s post from Dan Griset, who is serving the remainder of his council term after losing an Assembly race.
