Madera County officials said one of the new employees hired last week to replace striking sheriff’s deputies has quit. However, there was a conflict of opinion over what led Daniel Hatt to leave his job after only a few days. County officials indicated that they thought Hatt was harassed by some of the 39 deputies who have been on strike since Nov. 6. Hatt, who lived in Visalia before he was hired, was not available for comment. Meanwhile, there was no indication of a breakthrough in the stalemate between the county and striking deputies.
