Fire caused an estimated $110,000 in damage Wednesday to a single-story home in Placentia, authorities said.

County Fire Department Capt. Ron Blaul said damage to the house in the 600 block of Shady Lane was so bad that it is uninhabitable.

However, no one was injured in the blaze, which was reported at 9:20 a.m., Fire Department spokeswoman Patti Range said.

Blaul said investigators blamed faulty electrical wiring in a lamp for sparking the fire, which 24 firefighters controlled in about 35 minutes.

The fire, at the home of Richard and Lois Dolnick, occurred while both were at work, Range said, but two of their three sons were in the house getting ready for school.

Another student had stopped by to pick them up for school when he noticed smoke coming from the house, she said, but the two Dolnick boys inside were unaware of the fire.

The three boys searched the house and discovered the fire in the family room, then ran to a neighbor’s home to call the Fire Department, Blaul said.
