Israeli Troops Kill Boy, 14, During Protest
Israeli soldiers fatally shot a 14-year-old Palestinian boy today after he threw stones at soldiers outside a refugee camp in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus, army officials said.
On Thursday, Israeli troops killed two Palestinian students during a demonstration at Birzeit University. (Story on Page 10.) It was the worst violence at a West Bank campus in two years.
The teen-ager was killed when soldiers opened fire on a group of fleeing Palestinian youths who refused to stop for questioning at the Balata refugee camp, 40 miles north of Jerusalem, an army official said.
The official said the soldiers fired first in the air and then at the legs of the youths.
The Palestine Press Service said the shooting occurred during a demonstration at the refugee camp held to protest Thursday’s shooting deaths.
The agency said the refugee camp and much of the city of Nablus were closed off by the Israeli army.
