The LSU Board of Supervisors rebuffed an attempt by Chancellor James Wharton to name assistant football coach Mike Archer to replace the retiring head coach, Bill Arnsparger.
Rather than accept Wharton’s recommendation, the board voted, 10-8, to have Wharton and a search committee present three to five candidates to the board for its consideration.
The decision meant that Archer remains a contender for the job. Archer said he was disappointed but still wanted the job.
