A 62-year-old woman was killed and her husband was seriously injured Sunday when their car was hit broadside by another in an Anaheim intersection, authorities said.

Irene Allan was declared dead at the scene of the 3:45 p.m. crash, Orange County Deputy Coroner Cullen Ellingburgh said.

Paul Allan, 71, who was driving their car, was transported by helicopter to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, police said.

“He’s in very serious condition,” Anaheim Police Lt. Jack Parra said.

Parra said the Allans were northbound on Kraemer Avenue in their 1984 Buick when they were hit at the intersection of Mira Loma Avenue by a Chevy Nova being driven by Marguerite Walters, 42, of Anaheim.

He said the force of the collision sent the Allans’ car into a southbound Buick LeSabre driven by Julie Woodhull, 28, of Tustin, who was not injured.

Walters was taken by ambulance to Anaheim Memorial Hospital, where her condition was not immediately known.

An investigation into the cause of the crash was being conducted, authorities said.

Ellingburgh said it was clear that “someone ran a red light.”
