Boy, 11, Tries to Feed Chained Bear, Is Killed

SAND SPRINGS, Okla. —
A 300-pound black bear being kept as a pet attacked and killed a visiting child who attempted to feed it an ear of corn, authorities said.
Samuel Nipps, 11, was killed Saturday at the home of Danny Boatman, who was keeping the bear chained in his front yard as a favor to a friend, an Osage County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.
