A taxicab in Chicago ran a red light when the driver suffered a stroke and plowed into a crowd of pedestrians on a street in the downtown Loop at lunchtime, injuring the driver and 13 other people, two critically, police said. The vehicle then struck an unmarked police car parked in front of the Palmer House hotel before coming to a stop. Hospital authorities later determined that the driver, Willie Evans, 66, had suffered a stroke. Evans was cited for running a red light, striking pedestrians in a roadway and damaging city property, Police Capt. John Cotter said.
