British golfer Ian Woosnam has been barred from defending his Kenya Open golf title because he played in a South African tournament last week, the administrator of the Kenya Golf Union said.
“We will not issue him an invitation in view of him having played down there,” Mike Harbage said. “We have informed the Professional Golf Assn. and the European Tournament Players Division.”
Woosnam, 28, a member of Britain’s 1985 Ryder Cup team, won the 1986 Kenya Open. Last week, Woosnam played in the Sun City Million Dollar Golf Championship in Bophuthatswana, a nominally independent black homeland in South Africa.
