For the third year in a row, contributions to KCET Channel 28 during its December fund-raising drive topped $1 million, the public television station reported Monday.

Station officials said the 11-day campaign, which ended Sunday, brought in 19,299 pledges totaling $1,028,264.

That was about $20,000 short of the amount raised during the 12-day drive held in December, 1985, they said.

DOCUMENTARY MINISERIES: PBS has lined up all but the last few dollars needed to buy the U.S. television rights to the acclaimed documentary “Shoah,” about the Nazi extermination of Jews during World War II.

Anticipating that the remaining money will be raised, Suzanne Weil, vice president of programming for PBS, is planning a spring premiere for the 9 1/2-hour film by Claude Lanzmann, probably in four parts.

After that, the documentary might be shown in other formats, Weil said, because the rights agreement would give public TV stations an unlimited number of repeats for five years--for example, they might show it over two nights on one occasion and in its entirety on another.

“DYNASTY” FIGHT: After five weeks of running second in its time period behind CBS’ “Magnum, P.I.,” ABC’s “Dynasty” narrowly reclaimed the title to the Wednesday night slot last week.

The soap opera was viewed in about 14.7 million homes, compared to about 14.5 million for CBS’ Hawaiian-set detective drama, according to A. C. Nielsen Co. ratings.
