Nevada Reno Turns Back Pepperdine on Late Free Throws for 95-88 Victory
Sophomore forward Chris Rupp hit the front end of a one-and-one with 1:58 left in the game to break a tie and help boost Nevada Reno to a 95-88 basketball victory over Pepperdine Monday night.
After Rupp’s shot pushed the score to 87-86, Nevada Reno (4-3) then made 6 of 9 free-throw attempts in the last 28 seconds to seal the win.
Pepperdine (2-4) was down by 11 points at the half, 55-44, but battled back late in the game to lead four times.
Nevada Reno senior forward David Wood led all scorers with 25 points, sophomore guard Darryl Owens had 24 and teammate Boris King added 16.
Senior forward Eric White led Pepperdine with 20 points, and junior forward Levy Middlebrooks and junior guard Ed Allen each added 18. Middlebrooks led all rebounders with 12.
