Bill Walton Undergoes Arthroscopic Surgery on His Ankle
Bill Walton, who helped the Boston Celtics regain the NBA championship last spring, underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right ankle Wednesday.
Dr. Tony Daly, who performed the surgery, said he found several tiny pieces of bone and one larger piece, all of which were removed.
Walton, who has a history of foot problems, has not been able to play this season for the Celtics. He missed only two games last season and gave the Celtics the bench strength they now lack.
The Celtics are hopeful the 6-11 former UCLA star will be ready to play in two months. In an NBA career that began at Portland in 1974, Walton has played only 458 games out of a possible 1,007.
