Witherspoon Passed Test, After All

Boxer Tim Witherspoon did not have marijuana in his system during his heavyweight title loss to James (Bonecrusher) Smith, as a report earlier this week by the New York State Athletic Commission said, commission Chairman Jose Torres said Friday.

“It was a critical error,” said Torres, who had reported Wednesday that Witherspoon had tested positive for marijuana in tests before and after he was stopped in the first round of the World Boxing Assn. fight last Friday night.

“Somebody made a critical error in putting ‘positive’ when it should have been ‘negative,’ ” Torres said.
