Britain’s Lloyd Honeyghan gave up the World...
Britain’s Lloyd Honeyghan gave up the World Boxing Assn. portion of his undisputed world welterweight boxing championship, because of South Africa’s racial policies.
Honeyghan, who is black, said he wanted to avoid the possibility of having to fight Harold Volbrecht of South Africa in a title defense. To fight Volbrecht, he said, would amount to condoning South Africa’s apartheid policies.
An American black boxer, Mark Breland, is scheduled to meet Volbrecht in what has been billed as a final WBA elimination bout for a shot at Honeyghan.
