New Volleyball League Drafts Cheryl Miller
Former USC basketball star Cheryl Miller was among the players selected in the Major League Volleyball’s first draft Monday. The Los Angeles Starlites made Miller a ninth-round pick.
Karen Dahlgren, an All-American at Nebraska, was the newly formed women’s professional league’s top pick. Dahlgren was chosen by the Minnesota Monarchs.
Steve Arnold, commissioner of the league scheduled to open its first season in February, said he did not know if Miller would consider switching sports.
“But she’s one of the outstanding woman athletes in the world,” Arnold said. “It wouldn’t be easy for her, but if anyone can do it, she probably can.”
