White, Allen Lead Pepperdine Over Santa Barbara, 93-88

Eric White and Ed Allen scored 19 points each Monday night to lead a balanced Pepperdine attack as the Waves topped UC Santa Barbara, 93-88, at Malibu to snap a six-game losing streak.

Michael Cumberland and Dexter Howard added 15 points for Pepperdine and Levi Middlebrooks had 12 points and a team-high 9 rebounds for the Waves, who are now 3-6.

Pepperdine hadn’t lost as many as six in a row in six years.

Brian Vaughns led UC Santa Barbara with 18 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Khris Fortson and Carrick DeHart added 16 points each for the Gauchos, who fell to 3-4.

The game was close until the late going. The Waves led, 40-39, at halftime and held their biggest advantage at 78-71 after Jim Harrick’s steal and layup with 3:40 left.

The Gauchos got a three-point field goal from Brian Shaw 16 seconds later to cut Pepperdine’s lead to four points, but the Waves broken the game open by scoring the next seven points to go ahead, 85-74, with two minutes to play.

Pepperdine has won 31 of its last 32 home games dating back to March, 1984.
