Santa Ana : Lawyer Seeks Delay in Evictions of 200

Share

A lawyer fighting an $8.4-million Santa Ana redevelopment project asked Wednesday for a delay in the evictions of about 200 low-income tenants.

The 30 single-family homes remaining at a West 1st Street site would be demolished and a 172-unit apartment complex constructed under city-approved plans of Classic Development Corp.

Tenant attorney Richard Spix said he asked Superior Court judges to order the case transferred to the state appellate court in Santa Ana. Spix claimed that the developer and the city should have given tenants advance notice of the building plans.

Classic, armed with city blessings for the project and demolition permits, has torn down about 10 of the homes on the site. Classic lawyers had won an eviction battle in September in Municipal courts, but Spix’s appeal had halted further work until Tuesday.

Spix said he does not expect any further action by Classic before Friday.
