Standby Rates at N.Y. Hotel

NEW YORK — At least one first-class hotel in Manhattan has adopted a practice used by airlines--standby rates.
The 1,450-room Omni Park Central Hotel, 7th Avenue at 56th Street, has an $89 standby rate; its regular rate is $140 to $190.
The reduced rate is offered every day, if there is a vacancy, to guests without reservations who check in after 7 p.m.
The hotel has nearly completed major renovations.
