The State : Earthquake Jars Bay Area
A mild earthquake that shook the San Francisco Bay Area was felt from Salinas north to San Rafael, but caused no reported damage or injuries. The state Office of Emergency Services estimated the quake’s magnitude at 3.5 on the Richter scale. The U.S. Geological Survey estimated the magnitude at 4.3, according to agency spokesman Don Finley. The temblor was centered about 5 miles east of Milpitas, about 45 miles southeast of San Francisco, authorities said.
