Tampa Bay Fires Leeman Bennett

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers fired Coach Leeman Bennett Monday. The Buccaneers were 2-14 this season and 4-28 in two seasons under Bennett.

Owner Hugh Culverhouse said he made the decision to fire Bennett only 15 minutes before a news conference, which he called two weeks ago to discuss future plans for his struggling team.

Culverhouse did not set a specific timetable for finding a new coach. He denied reports that he has talked to Alabama Coach Ray Perkins about the job.
