Villanova 69, South Carolina 59--Harold Jensen personally outscored the Gamecocks, 12-5, over a four-minute stretch of the second half as the Wildcats won the Sugar Bowl tournament at New Orleans.

In the consolation game, Rolando Ferreira’s 19-foot jumper with two seconds remaining stifled a Vanderbilt rally and gave Houston a 73-72 victory over the Commodores.

Oregon State 65, San Jose State 55--Jose Ortiz scored a career-high 38 points as the Beavers defeated the Spartans in the third-place game of the Far West Tournament at Portland.

Earlier, Chris Welp scored 28 points to pace Washington to an 84-74 victory over Southwestern Louisiana to give the Huskies fourth place.

In another consolation game, Vinson Metcalf scored 7 of his team-high 18 points in overtime to lift Idaho to a 70-67 victory over Mississippi State in the seventh-place game.

Women’s games:

Ohio State 83, USC 63--Lisa Cline, Jodi Strine and Nikita Lowry each scored 15 points Monday to lead the Buckeyes rout of USC in the third-place game of the Orange Bowl Invitational Tournament at Coral Gables, Fla.

The outside shooting of Cline, Strine and Lowry got the Buckeyes off to a fast start, as No. 20 Ohio State took a 19-point lead midway through the first half. Center Teresa Dombkowski provided the inside scoring with 14 points.

Ohio State shot 63% from the field for the game to 40% for USC. The ninth-ranked Trojans could get not closer than 15 points in the second half, trailing by as much as 23.

Cherie Nelson led USC with 18 points. Both teams are 6-3.

UCLA 81, San Diego St. 56--Jaime Brown scored 25 points to help the Bruins end a three-game losing streak at Pauley Pavilion.

Dora Dome added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Bruins (5-3). Jessica Haynes scored 13 points for San Diego State (3-5). UCLA outscored San Diego State, 17-2, in six minutes late in the first half and led by halftime, 41-20.
