Share

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it has reopened and expanded its investigation into steering problems that could affect an estimated 6 million front-wheel drive cars manufactured by General Motors Corp. The government agency also said it has reopened an investigation into unintended acceleration problems in GM’s J cars made during model years 1982 through 1985. About 2.3 million vehicles are affected. The NHTSA said the steering probe, which centers on GM’s X, J and A cars made during model years 1980 to 1984, was started Dec. 16 after it learned those vehicles could suffer from a loss of power steering control in cold weather or before their engines are warmed up.
