Three Brigham Young football players arrested last month for forging prescription pain-killers say that they now realize their addiction to the pain killer Percodan could have killed them.
“The point we make is that we all could have ended up dead,” said linebacker J.C. Von Colln, who held a news conference with tight end Trevor Molini and linebacker Steve Sanders. “That point really got to me. People should realize that, too. Don’t depend on drugs.”
The three juniors were released from the in-patient phase of therapy at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center’s Dayspring Chemical Dependency Unit.
All were given Percodan for pain last season but quickly became addicted. They were arrested for forging prescriptions last month and missed BYU’s final regular-season game against Air Force and the Freedom Bowl against UCLA.
The players’ future was uncertain, but they said they hoped to be reinstated and return to the football team next season.
