DADDY’S GIRL

There’ve been a few sniggers since Candace Savalas (daughter of Telly) was selected last week as Miss Golden Globe ‘87--like Daily Variety proclaiming front-page that “nepotism is still in flower in Hollywood.” Candace, 23, follows other offspring of the rich and famous, such as Lisabeth Shatner, Laura Dern, Anita Finch and Calista Carradine as crown-bearer for the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn.

But it turns out that nepotism is supposed to be integral to the selection process.

“The board of directors looks for an aspiring actress who is second generation to an established artist,” said Marrianne Ruuth, ex-president who now handles publicity. “On top of that, we like to have someone who’s good-looking with a pleasant personality. Often we’ll have known them since they were children, as they’ve been around here with their parents.”

Candace, who’ll do things like hand out Golden Globes when winners are announced Jan. 31, is definitely an aspiring actress. She’ll make her debut in a CBS movie early this year playing a cop. The title (are you ready?): “Kojak--The Investigation.”
