Actress Elsa Lanchester, perhaps best known for her role in “The Bride of Frankenstein,” bequeathed $250,000 to a Woodland Hills hospital and left $2,000 to animal-care organizations. Lanchester, the wife of Academy Award-winning actor Charles Laughton, died at age 84 of bronchial pneumonia Dec. 26 in the Motion Picture and Television Hospital. Her will, filed for probate in Los Angeles County Superior Court, set up a $250,000 trust and asked that it be paid to the hospital, operated by the Motion Picture and Television Fund, upon her death. Lanchester listed personal property worth $632,000 and real property worth $500,000. The actress left $1,000 each to Cat Care in West Los Angeles and the animal rights organization Actors and Others for Animals in North Hollywood.
