Golden Gate Transit bus drivers overwhelmingly approved a one-year contract with a 4% pay hike, a union official said. Tentative agreement on the contract had been reached late Tuesday, averting a walkout by the drivers, who serve 15,000 Marin and Sonoma county commuters. The vote, taken by secret ballot in San Rafael and Santa Rosa, was 202 to 44 in favor of the proposed contract, said Tony Withington, vice president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1575. He said the local represents about 340 bus drivers and information clerks.
