Ted Tollner Talks to Buffalo Bills; Gigantino May Join the Rams’ Staff

Ted Tollner is in Buffalo, where he is interviewing for an assistant coaching job with the Bills, and Artie Gigantino will reportedly join the Rams’ coaching staff, it was learned Monday night.

There is a possibility that Tollner, who was fired as USC’s coach Dec. 8, could become the offensive coordinator for the Bills under head coach Marv Levy. However, Tollner’s wife, Barbara, said he has not made a decision whether he’ll join the NFL team.

Bobby Ross, the former Maryland coach, accepted a job as Buffalo’s offensive coordinator but relinquished it to become Georgia Tech’s coach.

Tollner was the quarterback coach at San Diego State and Brigham Young before becoming an assistant coach at USC in 1982. He then became head coach in 1983, succeeding John Robinson, who is now the Rams’ coach.

Gigantino, who was the defensive coordinator on Tollner’s staff, will reportedly become a special teams coach with the Rams.

Gil Haskell is the special teams coach, but he’ll reportedly coach another area of the team. There’s a vacancy on the staff created by the departure of Bruce Snyder, the former running backs coach, who is now California’s head coach.
